Two weather warnings in place for Galway tomorrow

Met Éireann warns of high winds and heavy rain in the west

Two Status Yellow weather warnings have been issued for Galway tomorrow (Wednesday ), with both high winds and heavy rain forecast for the county throughout the day.

A rain warning has been issued for the county this morning, following a Status Yellow warning for high winds announced yesterday.

The first of the two warnings issued by Met Éireann, a Yellow wind warning for counties Galway, Mayo, and Donegal, is set to come into effect at 6am on Wednesday.

The warning comes with a forecast of southwesterly winds which will be very strong at times, particularly around coastal areas.

Met Éireann is warning of possible impacts including debris and loose objects being displaced by the wind, difficult driving and cycling conditions, and some fallen trees and brances.

Large coastal waves, combined with moderate surges, may lead to wave overtopping in exposed coastal area.

The warning will remain in place until 6pm on Wednesday.

Also at 6pm on Wednesday, a second Status Yellow warning - for heavy rain - will come into effect, covering counties Galway, Mayo, Leitrim, Sligo and Donegal, and lasting until 6am on Thursday.

Met Éireann has warned of spells of heavy rain during this time, with potential impacts including difficult travelling conditions, poor visibility, and localised flooding in some areas.

A Status Yellow marine gale warning will also be in place for the entire County Galway coast from 4am to 8pm tomorrow, with a small craft warning in place for all coastal areas throughout the day.
