The Galway Convention Bureau will honour a number of outstanding ambassadors who have helped bring international conferences, meetings, business, cultural and sporting events to Galway at the inaugural Galway Ambassador Recognition Awards, taking place at The Hardiman on Thursday, 12 November.

The awards recognise the vital contribution of Galway-based academics, researchers, clinicians, industry leaders and professional association members who use their international networks and influence to attract prestigious conferences and events to the region.

Business events generate significant economic and social benefits for Galway, supporting local businesses, showcasing the region’s expertise on a global stage and creating opportunities for collaboration, innovation and investment.

These events also provide delegates with the opportunity to experience Galway’s rich cultural heritage and vibrant festival programme, encouraging extended stays and repeat visits. Business event delegates are worth three times more to the local economy than leisure visitors, making this sector a key driver of year-round tourism revenue.

Galway Convention Bureau is working on a strong pipeline of business events that will be delivered between now and 2030, bringing an estimated 30,000 delegates to the region and generating €43.5 million for the local economy

The evening will be hosted by renowned broadcaster and media personality Gemma Ni? Chionnaith, who will guide guests through a celebration of the individuals whose efforts continue to elevate Galway’s profile as a leading international business events destination.

Speaking ahead of the awards, Niamh Stack, Manager of Galway Convention Bureau, added that these inaugural awards are an opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the individuals who champion Galway internationally.

“Through their efforts, Galway continues to secure valuable business events that enhance our reputation, support jobs and strengthen our visitor economy. We are delighted to recognise their achievements and thank them for their ongoing support.”

Hosted in partnership with Fa?ilte Ireland, Galway City Council, Galway County Council, and industry partners, the Galway Ambassador Recognition Awards will bring together leaders from tourism, hospitality, business, academia and local government to celebrate the impact of business events on Galway’s economy and international profile.
