Fallers Jewellers: a Galway family story since 1879

For almost 150 years, the Fallers name has been part of the fabric of Galway city. Established in 1879, Fallers Jewellers has grown from the work of one ambitious jeweller into a fifth-generation family business, firmly rooted on Williamsgate Street.

The story began with Stephen Faller, a jeweller and clockmaker who travelled throughout the West of Ireland by bicycle, carrying clocks with him and offering them to families on a trial basis. From those modest beginnings, a business built on trust and personal service began to take shape.

In 1899, Fallers moved to Williamsgate Street, where the business remains today. Much has changed in Galway since then, and the jewellery and watch trades have evolved considerably, but the family’s connection with the city has remained constant.

Watches have always been an important part of the Fallers story, continuing a tradition that began with Stephen Faller more than a century ago. Today, that heritage sits alongside brands such as Citizen, Seiko and Frederique Constant.

Jewellery, too, has evolved with the generations. Classical gold and diamond pieces remain at the heart of the business, while brands including Swarovski and Nomination have brought new styles and new customers through the doors. More recently, Fallers has embraced the changing landscape of fine jewellery with its Eternal range of lab-grown diamonds.

Today, brothers Keith and John Faller represent the fifth generation of the family. Their role is a continuation of the past, but also a responsibility for the future.

With 147 years behind it, Fallers is now looking towards its 150th anniversary in 2029. But perhaps the most important part of the story is not the number of years, but the generations of Galway families who have walked through the doors of Williamsgate Street — buying a first watch, choosing an engagement ring, marking an anniversary or finding a gift for someone special.

That connection with the people of Galway is what has carried the Fallers name from 1879 into its fifth generation, and it is what will carry the story forward.
