Two men enjoying a smoke outside a Ballinasloe pub were allegedly set upon and threatened with Stanley knives by a couple who approached them and subjected them to an unprovoked attack.
This was the scenario outlined before Judge James Faughnan at Ballinasloe District Court when both the alleged assailants appeared before him.
The incident occurred on September 7 last, and the judge expressed reservations about accepting jurisdiction when informed that Stanley knives were alleged to have been produced and brandished menacingly.
The court heard how it will be alleged that two individuals were outside An Táin pub in St Michael’s Square, Ballinasloe, having a smoke, when they were approached by a couple.
The male, Juliano Ciwinski, 10 Slí na hAbhain, Ballinasloe is alleged to have punched one of the smokers in the face in an unprovoked attack and then produced a Stanley knife and waved it in a threatening manner.
His female companion, Najam Shebab, 21 An Choill Fhada, Creagh, Ballinasloe became involved in the altercation. A woman came out of the pub, and Shebab spat and lunged at her. When one of the men intervened the defendant is alleged to have produced another Stanley knife and brandished it at the two males.
Judge Faughnan adjourned matters until the October 22 sitting of the court.
