Motorists are being warned to expect delays in Salthill next Friday evening as around 2,000 people take part in the annual Croí Charity Night Run.
The 5K event, sponsored by Benecol, gets underway at Mutton Island at 8pm next Friday, October 9, with significant crowds expected to gather in the area ahead of the start.
A temporary rolling road closure will be in place along Grattan Road (R336 ), between Mutton Island and Blackrock, from 8pm until approximately 9.30pm to facilitate the race.
The restrictions are expected to result in delays for motorists and other road users travelling through Salthill during the evening.
Residents in the area are also being advised to take the event and the associated traffic restrictions into account when planning their journeys.
Organisers Croí said the event has attracted unprecedented demand, with approximately 2,000 participants expected to take part this year.
The charity has appealed to road users and local residents for their patience and understanding while the event is taking place.
Crowds are expected in the Mutton Island and Salthill areas before the race begins, with the rolling road closure remaining in place as runners make their way along the route.
Croí is encouraging residents, motorists and road users to share information about the traffic arrangements on social media to ensure as many people as possible are aware of the disruption in advance.
The Croí Charity Night Run is one of the organisation’s annual fundraising events, with participants taking part in the 5K run along the Salthill promenade.
