A judge asked a frequent visitor to her court if he had ever seen himself on security footage taken of his anti-social behaviour around the city.
Judge Fiona Lydon was dealing once again with public order charges brought against Philip Kalwile (no fixed abode ), who has multiple convictions for public drunkenness around the city.
Judge Lydon said there must be a lot of CCTV footage of the defendant’s drunken behaviour about the city available, and suggested it might help if he could view himself engaging in the behaviour which has continually landed him before the court. She added that she would certainly like to see any such footage and adjourned the case until the October 6 sitting, as she said she was anxious to move matters on.
Kalwile’s MO, one judge who dealt with him in the past said, was to drink until he is “paralytic” and then to collapse on the road and pavement and go to sleep. He has more than 70 similar convictions on his record.
Another judge dealing with him on similar charges told him Gardaí had better things to do than to go around the city picking up drunks from the streets. He said his concern was that Gardaí could be wanted urgently elsewhere but couldn’t go because they had to deal with him.
Kalwile said he was pleading guilty to everything when charged.
