Award-winning writer, literary and theatre critic, journalist, political and social analyst, and public intellectual Fintan O’Toole will speak at Thoor Ballylee on Friday, September 11, at 8pm on Loving and Hating Yeats.
O’Toole will explore W.B. Yeats’s immense and sublime poetic vision — and the darker side of his political thought, including his right-wing and crypto-fascist politics.
Fintan O’Toole’s most recent book, written with Sam McBride, is For and Against a United Ireland. He has written for The Irish Times for almost forty years, since 1988. He has also been drama critic for the New York Daily News, a regular contributor to the London Review of Books and The New York Review of Books, and a visiting lecturer at Princeton University for twelve years, until 2024.
He has written and contributed to more than forty books on theatre, literature, political movements and political leaders.
His 2021 book, We Don’t Know Ourselves, is part history, part memoir and part personal remembrance of Irish life since 1958, the year of his birth.
