There were two Galway medallists part of Athletics Ireland's under-18 development team that took on the Scottish Championships in Aberdeen last weekend.
Adill Prochownik of Galway City Harriers stormed to victory to capture gold in the 400m hurdles in a fast 58.25 time. South Galway AC's Claudia Coyle put up a strong performance in the 1500m Steeplechase, as she secured bronze.
The Ireland squad topped the medal table at the championships. Overall, the team set a wave of new personal bests and secured an impressive tally of 34 medals - nine gold, 16 silver and nine bronze.
Also on the international stage, GCH athlete Andrew Egan continued his impressive form as he won the men's C 400m final at the Continental Tour Bronze Meet in Szczecin, Poland. Egan clocked a season's best 46.15 to do so.
Road races
Jamie Fallon of Craughwell AC represented Ireland at the Home Nations Half Marathon Championships in Antrim, setting a superb new personal best of 65.09 and club record in a gritty display of racing for a top 20 finish.
Maebh Brannigan of GCH continued her excellent season, winning the prestigious Tullamore Half Marathon last Saturday in a time of 76.05.
Claregalway 8k
Local athletes delivered impressive performances on the road recently as Aaron Brennan and Ellen Bermingham secured decisive victories at the Claregalway 8k event.
Brennan, representing Galway City Harriers AC, set a searing pace from the outset to lead the field home, taking the top spot on the podium with a clocking of 26.42. Athenry AC’s Sam Nyhan claimed second place in 28.19, while Daniel O'Brien was third in 28.33.
In the women’s field, South Galway AC’s Ellen Bermingham put on a commanding display, finishing fourth overall in a time of 29.49 to claim the women's title. Clare Rowe of Galway City Harriers AC secured second place with a time of 32.12, followed closely by Sinead Oakes-Higgins, who completed the top three in 32.54.
