A team from the Oranmore Lodge Hotel are aiming to collectively cover 30,000 miles this month to raise funds for heart charity Croí in memory of a former colleague who passed away suddenly last year.

James Colbourne worked at the hotel between 2022 and 2023, but left in October 2023 to spend two years in New Zealand. Mr Colbourne, described as a fit and active young man who went to the gym daily, passed away while out running in Perth on August 27 last year, just 11 days before he was due to return to Ireland.

His friends at the Oranmore Lodge Hotel have decided to remember him with a fundraiser which will help those with heart problems. They aim to run, walk and cycle 30,000 miles - the equivalent distance from Mr Colbourne's home in Co Cavan to Perth and back again - in a bid to raise €3,000 for Croí, the west of Ireland heart and stroke charity.

The group is also planning to hold a raffle on September 11 as part of the fundraising effort, with all proceeds going to Croí. The winner will enjoy a night out in the Oranmore Lodge Hotel.
