It is hard to miss a Defender out on the road. It is even harder for a yellow one to go unnoticed. Inspired by the gruelling Camel Trophy expeditions of the 80's and 90's, the new(ish ) Defender 110 Trophy sure knows how to turn heads.
Pictured here in 'Deep Sandglow Yellow', the 110 Trophy also features a contrasting gloss black finish on the bonnet, lower bodyside, brake callipers and rear recovery eyes. If that is not for you, there is also a more subtle 'Keswick Green'.
Both colours can be finished with an optional matte protective film which provides an added layer of protection to the bodywork.
It goes without saying that the 110 Trophy takes to the dirt like a duck to water thanks to its active four-wheel drive and air suspension. Shod in 20-inch Goodyear all-terrain rubber, the specification also includes gloss black alloy wheels (akin to 'steelies' ) and wheelarch protection, and a dark rear scuff plate.
A deployable side-mounted roof ladder also makes accessing the roof rack much easier. A raised air intake for dust filtration can also be fitted.
Land Rover has not been frugal with the 'Trophy' decals either, which can be found on the bonnet, C-pillar, at the rear, as well as inside on the dash. A plethora of physical buttons and dials remain in close proximity to the driver, while there is the option of a digital rear-view mirror for better visibility.
The Trophy specification is exclusive to the 110 Defender body style and is only offered as a plug-in-hybrid. Namely, a turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engine assisted by an electric motor and paired with a 15.4kWh (usable ) battery. Peak power is 300hp with a maximum torque of 625Nm.
Naturally the battery does need regular charging to unlock the 110's best efficiency figures, as the petrol alone will only get you around 500km from a full tank.
Land Rover quotes an electric-only range of up to 48km, but in the real world this figure proved closer to 35km. It does however, support public DC chargers up to 50kW.
As with every 110 Defender model, the Trophy edition comes in a five-seat configuration with a sizable boot or cargo when the rear seats are folded completely flat. It can tow up to three tonnes of braked trailer.
The Defender 110 Trophy comes with the hefty starting price tag of €130,200. If you like it and can afford it, get it.
