The Volkswagen Group has confirmed plans to axe 50 per cent of its models by the end of the decade.
While no specifics have been shared on which models are set to be discontinued, the Volkswagen Group said it will gear its future manufacturing towards “the most attractive market segments”. It also aims to reduce the number of available vehicle equipment options to customers by up to 75 per cent.
The Volkswagen Group passenger car range comprises Volkswagen, Audi, Skoda, Seat, Cupra, Porsche, Lamborghini and Bentley. The Group mentioned the need to "eliminate parallel structures" that allow the respective brands duplicate one another’s engineering.
To this end, the Volkswagen Group said it is focusing on "competitive technologies with high scaling potential and clear customer benefit".
