Early morning Athenry to Galway service to be retained

The National Transport Authority and Iarnród Éireann have confirmed that the 06:50hrs Athenry to Galway weekday (Monday to Saturday ) service, introduced as a temporary service last October, is to be retained.

The service was initially introduced on a temporary basis as Ceannt Station works necessitated the stabling of a train at Athenry overnight and was due to finish operation at the end of July.

However, it has grown in popularity during that time, and the National Transport Authority has now approved its retention beyond July, and the approval also confirms that it will remain as part of the 2027 timetable.

An Iarnród Éireann spokesperson said they are delighted to be in a position to continue operating the new service, which has provided improved options for commuters from Athenry and Oranmore and surrounding areas, following NTA approval.
