information about assault and damage
Gardaí in Galway city are investigating an assault on a male cyclist by a male pedestrian on St Mary’s Road between 6.25pm and 6.30pm on July 7.
The suspect was described as a white male with grey hair wearing grey Adidas shorts, black runners and a blue t-shirt. He also was carrying a large back pack that had University of Galway emblazoned on it.

In Mountbellew, Co Galway, a number of incidents involving criminal damage occurred between July 16 and 20. A significant amount of damage was caused by a person or persons spray painting various items at multiple locations around Mountbellew.

E scooter safety legislation reminders
Gardaí would like to remind the public in relation to the laws governing E scooters and that they must not be used by persons under 16 years of age in a public place. Further, anyone using one:
Must obey a speed limit of 20km/h.
Must drive on the left. E-scooters are allowed in cycle or bus lanes and on local roads but not on footpaths.
Must not hold or use a mobile phone.
Must not use an E-Scoter whilst intoxicated.
Must not have a seat on their e-scooter.
Must not carry passengers or goods.
Must obey signals given by a Garda or school warden and follow the same rules of the road that apply to cyclists, including traffic lights, road signs, and all types of pedestrian crossings.
E-Scooters that are found to be in breach of this legislation can and will be seized by Gardaí.
Hieneken Big Top traffic management plan
Galway city Gardaí would like to remind motorists that there will be concerts taking place every night at the big top in Fisheries Field until Sunday, July 26.
There will be a traffic management plan in place at the end of each concert, which will finish at approximately 11pm each evening.
Traffic coming from the Courthouse towards the Cathedral will be redirected around the Cathedral via Gaol Road.
Gardaí would advise motorists traveling from the direction of the Hospital towards the Cathedral to use alternative routes to access the city centre.
Traffic restrictions will be in place from around 11pm to 11.30pm to facilitate the safe exit of the large crowds attending the concerts.
Gardaí would also like to advise people purchasing online tickets for any event to be cautious and only purchased tickets from trusted sites.
Traffic advice for the Galway Races
The Galway Races will begin on Monday, July 27.
A comprehensive traffic management plan will be in place for the week and Galway Gardaí have the following points of advice to help patrons attending this event stay safe on the Roads.
Plan your journey: With increased traffic and road closures during Race Week, plan your route and allow extra time for travelling.
Do not drink and drive: If you are planning to enjoy the races and festivities-have a designated driver, use public transport or call a taxi. Never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Follow traffic signs and signals: Temporary signs may be in place to manage the increased traffic flow, pay attention and follow them. Gardaí will be on duty at all the major junctions and access routes to facilitate the smooth access and exit of motorists from the racecourse.
Avoid distractions: Distracted driving, such as texting or using your phone increase the risk of accidents. Stay focused on the road.
Consider using public transport from Eyre Square to get to and from the racecourse where there will be extra buses operating throughout the week.
