Local footballer earns US scholarship

For eight years, Finn Plotner McCarthy has been a familiar face on the pitches at Galway Bohemians, growing from an enthusiastic 10-year-old into one of the club’s standout young players. Now, at the age of 18, that journey is taking an exciting new direction as he prepares to move to America on a college scholarship.

Joining the club at just ten years old, Finn quickly became known not only for talent on the field but also for dedication, hard work, and his commitment to teammates. Over the years, coaches and fellow players watched him develop through every age group.

Whether in training sessions, league matches, or important cup games, Finn consistently showed determination and a willingness to improve - qualities that have now opened the door to an incredible opportunity overseas.

Receiving a scholarship to study and play football in America is a remarkable achievement and reflects years of effort, discipline, and support from family, coaches, and teammates.

Speaking about the move, Finn said:

"This is an amazing opportunity and something I’ve worked hard towards for a long time. I’m grateful to everyone at Galway Bohemians for helping me develop both as a player and as a person. I’ll always be proud to have come through this club."

Anthony Trill added:

"We are incredibly proud of Finn. Watching him grow from a young player into someone earning this opportunity has been special. This scholarship is thoroughly deserved and we know he will represent the club, himself and his family brilliantly in America."

At schools' level, Finn's natural leadership and dedication to his craft saw him become a mainstay on Bish Soccer Teams.

Winning an All-Ireland title, contesting a British Isles Final and being awarded MVP (Most Valuable Player ) for this year’s Senior Team are all testament to his technical ability and honesty on the pitch.

As one chapter closes and another begins, everyone at Galway Bohemians wishes Finn every success in the years ahead. The entire club will be following his journey with pride and looks forward to seeing what comes next.
