This is not unfamiliar territory for Galway United as they prepare for their third All-Island Cup final in four years this Saturday evening in Tolka Park.

Having that experience within the squad is priceless. Especially for players like Emma Doherty, who is preparing for her first final with the club.

"It's massive," says United's top scorer. "Even just to know Lynsey's [McKey] been around, and even Abbie [Callanan] from winning the final the last time. It's nice to know that the girls around me have done it before.

"I was at Tallaght Stadium last time when the girls won, and it's something that I really want to be a part of. So I'm really excited for this weekend."

Callanan is one of a number of members of the squad to have experienced lifting the All-Island Cup. She affirms there is a determination amongst the squad to treat Saturday's final as "just another game".

"Just like Phil [Trill] said, it is just another game. We've played in these before, so we know how to treat it," said the 22-year-old who was one of the club's first players to sign back in 2022.

However, she admits it is tricky to ignore the fact there is silverware on the line.

"Obviously, you're thinking about it a small bit. There's no way to not to ignore that completely. I think that would be stupid to ignore the fact that there's something on the line. But yeah, it is just another game for us.

"We have played Shels once already this year, so it'll be a good test, but yeah, another game, 90 minutes, and hopefully we can win it in the 90."

For a squad with massive ambitions this season, their trophy-winning experience could prove the difference this Saturday evening.
