Saturday's All-Island Cup final arrives at a critical juncture for Galway United Women.

As the Tribeswomen enter their third All-Island Cup final in four years, they currently sit in second place in the Premier Division. Just two-points behind leaders Athlone Town and the only unbeaten team in the division this season, United are on course to compete on all fronts.

Lifting silverware could act as a vital springboard towards United's big ambitions this season. Manager Phil Trill likened the competition to the Carabao Cup in England which gives teams an opportunity to taste success and use it to kick on for the rest of the campaign.

"I see it as a real good chance and opportunity to give ourselves a kind of a kick and a bit more confidence within our group," said Trill. "We're in a really good space, but definitely I think we would take great confidence in that.

"The previous two years when we've won it, I think our end of season form has been excellent."

Last season was the first in United women's history to not bring a trophy. The noises coming out from the squad all season have suggested there is a real determination to get that winning feeling back again.

"The ladies sat in the dressing room at the start of the year and they set our goals, and our targets were really, really clear. We're on course to achieve what we want to achieve.

"It's a really good opportunity and a good occasion for our club. We know what it feels like to bring that trophy home, and we're really certain on trying to do it this weekend."

United could look back on a victory in Tolka Park at the end of the season as a defining moment.
