Chinese electronics company Skyworth Group has entered the Irish car market with the introduction of its Skywell electric vehicle brand.

Imported here by Carland Dublin, the Skywell brand was founded in 2010 and is backed by one of the world's largest TV and smart home appliance manufacturers in Shenzhen-based Skyworth Group.

The first Skywell model to launch in Ireland is the BE11 mid-sized SUV, which is now available in 72kWh and 86kWh battery sizes with a claimed range of up to 489km and eight-years' warranty.

The entry-level price is €39,999 for the 72kWh battery version and from €41,999 for the larger battery model, both net of the SEAI grant.

It measures 4,720mm long, 1,908mm wide, 1,696mm tall and offers 467-litres of boot space.

The BE11 is also available here as a two-seat commercial variant, which qualifies for the €3,800 SEAI grant giving it an on the road ex-VAT price of €36,999.

Joining the BE11 will soon be the Skyworth HongTu long wheel-base high roof van, which sits on a 100kWh CATL battery with a quoted range of up to 409km between charges. This L3H3 model offers 14m3 of cargo space and a 1,395 kg payload.

A Europe-specific electric hatchback model called the 'Q', is also said to be on the way.

Importer and distributor Carland Dublin said it is currently in the process of seeking and appointing dealers throughout the country.

“At the moment it is early days for Skywell in Ireland,” said Carland Dublin boss, Colin Hunt. “However I see massive future growth for the brand.”
