Fianna Fáil members and supporters are being invited to help preserve and showcase the party’s rich local history as preparations begin for the Party’s centenary celebrations in Galway West later this year.

As Fianna Fáil marks 100 years since its foundation, local party members are planning a special commemorative event to celebrate the organisation’s contribution to public life and to reflect on a century of activity and achievement both nationally and within the constituency. Details of the event are currently being finalised and will be announced in the coming months.

As part of the celebrations, the organising committee is appealing to members, former members and supporters who may possess party memorabilia, photographs, documents, election material, newspaper cuttings or other historical records ofinterest. These items may form part of a commemorative display and highlighting the history and development of Fianna Fáil in the area over the past century.

All items entrusted to the committee will be carefully handled, recorded and returned to their owners following the event. The committee is also seeking to spread the word among former members and activists who may hold valuable historical material. Many important records and memories remain in private collections and family archives, and organisers are keen to ensure that these stories and artefacts can be recognised and celebrated.

Speaking about the initiative, Current Fianna Fáil Deputy John Connolly said “Fianna Fáil has played a significant role in the social, economic and political development of communities across Ireland over the past 100 years. As we prepare to mark this important milestone locally, we want to ensure that the stories, memories and contributions of local members are properly recognised and preserved. We encourage anyone who may have connections, memories, photographs, documents or memorabilia of historical interest to get in touch.”

Anyone wishing to contribute material, share memories, or highlight significant events, personalities or achievements that should be acknowledged during the centenary celebrations is encouraged to contact Deputy Connolly or any local Fianna Fáil Councillor.
