Relating to a story headlined ‘Women’s refuge is homeless day centre’ in last week’s Galway Advertiser, COPE Galway has asked us to clarify that the Westside Modular Hub was designed to provide emergency accommodation to families experiencing homelessness.
It told the Advertiser that contrary to the story’s claims, the facility was never intended to temporarily house victims of domestic abuse.
A spokesman for COPE Galway said that the story describes the site as being utilised as a day centre for homelessness.
“While the article later clarifies that emergency accommodation is also operating there, the initial reference may suggest to readers that the accommodation facility there is not being utilised,” he concluded.
