The Galway Races set the tone for their highly anticipated Summer Festival with a vibrant annual launch party at The Earl Inn in Kiltullagh, which proved an especially fitting venue, as it is owned by the Earls family, who also celebrated racing success with last year’s Guinness Galway Hurdle winner, Ndaawi, adding an extra layer of significance to the occasion.

The event offered an exciting preview of what promises to be another unforgettable week of racing, fashion and entertainment, bringing together a fantastic crowd to celebrate one of Ireland’s most iconic summer events.

Guests were warmly welcomed by Dr. Colm O’Flaherty, Chairman of the Galway Races Committee, alongside CEO Michael Moloney, both of whom spoke passionately about the festival ahead and shared exciting insights into this year’s programme.

The afternoon also marked a notable occasion as it served as the first official engagement for Cllr. Andrew Reddington in his new role as Cathaoirleach of Galway County.

A key date in Galway’s social and fashion calendar, the launch event attracted a host of familiar faces and racing enthusiasts, all eager to get a glimpse of what’s to come. Proceedings were expertly guided by local MC Ollie Turner, with special guest appearances from Mandy Maher, head judge of Ladies Day, Marietta Doran, host of Athlone Towncentre’s Friday’s Most Stylish competition, and Charlene Flanagan, co- founder of Ella & Jo.

The event also marked important sponsorship milestones, including the Rooney Family celebrating an incredible 60 years sponsoring the Jockey Championship. Electric Nightclub was also announced as an exciting new addition to Saturday’s sponsorship line-up. Attendees were given an insight into several new enhancements at the racecourse this year, including the introduction of a stylish new cocktail bar, the expansion of the ever-popular Beauty Paddock, a revamped ground floor of the Killanin Stand by Tote Ireland, and BOYLE Sports’ takeover of the on-course betting shop.

The lively atmosphere on the day reflected the unique spirit of the Galway Races, a truly multigenerational festival that continues to blend sporting excellence with style, culture and entertainment.

Each day of the festival brings its own special highlight, from the much-loved opening evening on Monday to the thrill of Wednesday’s Galway Plate with its impressive €270,000 prize fund. Thursday’s Ladies Day promises glamour and elegance elevated again this year by sponsor Ella & Jo, while Friday’s Most Stylish competition, hosted by Athlone Towncentre, adds another layer of flair.

The week concludes on a high note with Sunday’s Mad Hatters Family Fun Day, sponsored by Ireland West Airport, who celebrate 40 years since the airport first opened, offering something for all ages.

With deep-rooted traditions and a spirit of celebration at its core, the Galway Races Summer Festival is once again set to welcome over 130,000 attendees to Ballybrit for the 157th Galway Races Summer Festival. Running from Monday, 27th July to Sunday, 2nd August, the stage is set for an incredible week that continues to capture the heart of Galway and beyond.
