Galway travel to Croke Park for an All-Ireland quarter-final showdown with Dublin this Sunday.
Pádraig Joyce's men return to action after sealing their spot in the final eight with victory over Westmeath a fortnight ago. Their reward is a mammoth clash with the Dubs at GAA HQ.
If you had offered the Tribesmen a quarter-final with Dublin a month ago they would have taken it gladly. But there have been signs that Ger Brennan is finally getting the right tune out of his team. Last weekend's heroic victory over Donegal was a massive statement that made the entire footballing landscape sit up and take note.
The 'everybody is against us' mentality that Dublin appear to have fostered is a dangerous one. Con O'Callaghan's return and influence cannot be understated either, with question marks over his availability after coming off in extra-time last Sunday.
That being said, Galway should not enter Croke Park overawed with fear. The Tribesmen, after a steady campaign to-date, seem to be saving their peak for the right moment. Shane Walsh was devastating against Westmeath, Rob Finnerty has been a constant threat all year, and Cein D'Arcy looks in the best shape of his career.
The midfield partnership of John Maher and Paul Conroy contains all the nous, power, and skill required to decide any contest. Cian Hernon's introduction to full-back has been a revelation to a defence that has undoubtedly improved since the Connacht final disappointment.
It all makes for a hugely intriguing match-up this weekend. If Galway are to lift that coveted Sam Maguire, a statement victory on Sunday could be the catalyst.
