The Galmont Hotel & Spa is celebrating a rare and remarkable milestone as four valued team members mark 25 years of dedicated service with the Galway hotel.

Ruwan Migel Wasam, Leo Decosta, Rosario Almeida and Cyril Henderson have each been part of The Galmont’s journey since 2001. Together, they represent a combined centenary of service and have played an integral role in the hotel’s growth, success and reputation for excellence over the past quarter century.

Commenting on the milestone, General Manager Stefan Lundstrom said that reaching 25 years of service is an extraordinary achievement and one that deserves to be celebrated.

“Ruwan, Leo, Rosario and Cyril have each made an invaluable contribution to The Galmont over the past 25 years. We are incredibly grateful for their dedication, professionalism and loyalty which have helped shape the culture of our hotel and the experience we provide to guests every day.”

Originally from India and Sri Lanka, all four colleagues arrived in Galway when the hotel opened in 2001 and have built their careers and lives in the city.

Meetings & Events Manager Leo Decosta, originally from Mumbai, said Galway “immediately felt like home” when he arrived. He added: “My time with the hotel has been a rewarding journey filled with growth, learning, friendships and unforgettable experiences.”

Rosario Almeida, who moved to Galway from Goa, said “one of my proudest achievements is being trusted to work in different departments and take on new responsibilities throughout my career”. Rosario worked in the Restaurant, Bar, Room Service, and Banqueting before taking on his current role as Accounts Assistant. He added: “Working across different areas has given me valuable experience and helped me grow both personally and professionally.”

Head Porter Ruwan Migel Wasam is started out as a kitchen steward, working his way up through the ranks. He said: “I will never forget the chef who gave me the opportunity to come and work in Ireland all those years ago, I think he works in Germany now but he, the hotel and Ireland have changed my life and my career. I will be 60 years old next August so I’m planning to continue work here for as long as I can.”

Breakfast Chef Cyril Henderson said some of his most memorable moments involved Race Week. He said: “My first time experiencing Race Week was a frenzy - helicopters were landing every five minutes! These events always keeps me on my toes and the lessons of loyalty and discipline I have learned over the years are deeply important to me.”

The four employees were recently honoured at a special recognition event celebrating their outstanding contribution to the hotel.
