Troubles piling up for Craughwell man

IT HAS been a bad few days for a Craughwell man who not only missed his son’s first birthday, lost his job, got dropped by his partner while in custody, and to top it all off, got a serious criminal conviction and a fine of €500.

Judge Liz Healy was dealing with Luke Healy (no relation ) of Templemartin, Craughwell, who was before her at Galway District Court charged with stealing clothing from PennEy’s Eyre Square to the value of €86. The goods were recovered and were fit for sale Prosecuting Garda Sgt Clare Heneghan told the Court. Healy had 24 previous conviction including two for theft.

Cathy McDarby solr (defending ) said her client was pleading guilty to the offence. He had been in custody for 10 days and as a result had lost his labouring job in the city and missed his son’s first birthday.

He was married with two children but his partner had said “this is it” and she wasn’t putting up with his behaviour anymore and her client accepted this.

Healy wanted to change, she said and was trying to get in contact with an addiction counsellor.

The Judge said she noted his plea but she had to take his previous convictions into account. He imposed a conviction and a fine of €500 or five days custody in lieu.
