Galway City West and Knocknacarra Councillor Donal Lyons has recently allocated a major part of his Local Improvement Scheme Funding for an extension of the footpath from Clybaun Heights estate to the bus stop on the Shangort Road.

Cllr Lyons said that he had received a number of representations from residents of Clybaun Heights requesting the extension of the existing footpath from Clybaun Heights to Shangort Road.

“The reason for the request of the footpath extension was to facilitate residents who wanted to access the 402 Bus Eireann service on Shangort Road where there is a permanent bus stop and bus shelter.

“However, as funding for this footpath extension was not included in the City Council 2026 budget, I was informed that Galway City Council was not in a position to fund the extension of the footpath,” he said.

In order to progress the issue Cllr Lyons had detailed discussions with official in the Galway City Council and as a result allocated a major part of his Local Improvement Scheme Funding to fund the footpath extension.

“I want to thank officials in the Parks Department, Roads Department, Finance Department and Active Travel Department of Galway City Council for their help in delivering the footpath extension.

“I have no doubt that the extension to the existing footpath will be widely welcomed by the local residents,” he said.
