Welcoming the announcement, Minister Canney said he was delighted to see €69,300 being invested in projects across Galway through this year’s Communicating Europe Initiative. This funding will help communities engage more closely with Europe and better understand the opportunities that come with Ireland’s membership of the European Union.”

“With Ireland preparing to take on the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, it is important that people have opportunities to learn more about Europe and to take part in discussions about its future. The projects being supported will help bring those conversations into communities across Galway. It is an honour for me to be leading out on the transport portfolio for the Presidency and I am delighted to see funding like this coming to Galway.”

The Communicating Europe Initiative supports organisations and local authorities in delivering projects that promote understanding of the European Union and Ireland’s role within it. This year’s programme is of particular significance as Ireland assumes the Presidency of the Council of the European Union on 1 July 2026.

Nationally, more than €731,000 has been awarded to 112 organisations and local authorities under the initiative.
