Citroen has confirmed the return of the 2CV in the guise of an all-electric city car.
The new CV will share the same affordability and lightweight design as its original. The 2CV is set to be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show.
More than 3.8 million units of the 2CV were built between 1948 and 1990. A number of right-hand drive units also built at the French manufacturer's Slough plant in England.
"The original 2CV was never created to become an icon. It became one because it gave people freedom," said Citroen CEO, Xavier Chardon.
"The return of the 2 CV is not simply the return of a legendary name. It is the return of a bold and optimistic idea of progress."
