The Salthill Fives returns to Salthill Park this Saturday and Sunday, with organisers promising the biggest and most exciting edition yet of Galway’s much-loved sporting festival.
Now in its 43rd year, the Salthill Fives has grown from a local football tournament into one of Galway’s standout annual events, welcoming teams and visitors from across Ireland and beyond.
Officially launched at Drom, home of Salthill Devon FC, this year’s tournament sold out in record time — a clear sign of its growing popularity and national appeal.
Speaking at the launch, Deputy Mayor of Galway City, Alan Cheevers, described the tournament as one of Galway’s major annual events, attracting thousands of attendees every year.
Tournament director Eugene Greaney said the tournament’s success comes from its broad community appeal.
“The Salthill Fives has become what it is because it’s for everybody,” he said. “We’re welcoming teams from all over the country, and the continued growth of the tournament highlights the huge appetite for an event like this in Galway.”
More Than Football
While the thrilling five-a-side action remains the centrepiece, visitors can also look forward to a packed weekend of entertainment, including live music, a vibrant food village and activities for all ages.
A major addition for 2026 is the Trainstation Wellness Area, set to become a lively hub of feel-good activity throughout the weekend. Designed to complement the festival atmosphere, the dedicated space will host a variety of energising sessions, giving visitors the opportunity to recharge between matches while enjoying a fresh wellbeing focus as part of the overall event experience.
Health and wellbeing remain a key priority for the tournament through its ongoing partnership with Croí, which will once again offer free cardiovascular health checks and advice from specialist nurses on-site.
Family Focus
The event will also continue its strong youth focus, with free football skills coaching for more than 100 boys and girls delivered by Salthill Devon coaches in an inclusive and welcoming environment.
Backed by headline sponsor Ground & Co, the Salthill Fives continues to go from strength to strength, blending football, family entertainment and community spirit into one unforgettable Galway weekend.
With demand stronger than ever, the 2026 tournament looks set to once again cement its place as one of the highlights of Galway’s summer calendar.
