Galway celebrates three All-Ireland inter-county badminton titles

Galway badminton enjoyed a hugely successful weekend at the Victor Inter County Finals 2026, hosted by Badminton Ireland at Kingfisher Club, University of Galway, with Galway teams capturing three All-Ireland titles and another team finishing as national runners-up.

Galway were crowned All-Ireland champions in Grades E, F and G following a series of superb performances throughout the day against some of the strongest counties in the country.

The Galway Grade E team secured the national title after defeating Tipperary 5-4 before producing an outstanding 6-0 victory over Dublin in the deciding match to finish top of the standings and claim Gold. Galway’s Grade F team also delivered a dominant campaign, defeating Tipperary 6-3, Donegal 9-0 and Laois 5-1 to finish unbeaten and secure another All-Ireland title for Galway. In Grade G, Galway added a third national title after impressive victories over Carlow (7-2 ) and Cork (5-4 ) in a tightly contested competition.

Galway’s Grade H team also produced an excellent performance throughout the finals, recording a strong 6-3 victory over Waterford before narrowly losing 5-4 to eventual champions Westmeath in a thrilling deciding match to finish as All-Ireland runners-up. The Grade H final proved one of the closest contests of the day, with Galway winning more overall points across the tie despite the narrow match defeat, highlighting just how competitive the encounter was.

Players from clubs across Galway contributed to a memorable day for the county, showcasing the continued strength, depth and growth of badminton throughout the region.

Galway badminton also celebrated success at juvenile level, with the Galway Under-15 team winning Gold at the Victor Juvenile Inter County Finals held at Kingfisher on Saturday, May 16. The Galway U15 side recorded excellent victories over Clare (6-3 ), Donegal (5-4 ) and Dublin (5-4 ) to secure the All-Ireland title.
