Local TD, Minister Hildegarde Naughton, has welcomed funding allocations under the 2026 Local Authority Marine Infrastructure Scheme. This funding will go towards the maintenance and upgrade of piers throughout County Galway.
“I am very pleased to see this funding announced, particularly for Blackweir and Ballinacourty Piers. Local residents in the area have been in contact with me in relation to safety issues at both locations and I was more than happy to work with my colleague, Minister Martin Heydon, to secure this funding,” the Minister said.
“This pier funding is essential to protect safety and ensure the continuous operation of coastal commerce and local tourism. Coastal piers face harsh marine conditions, making regular upkeep a critical necessity. I am therefore very happy to see this funding for Galway piers announced this week.”
