Students from across Ireland attended the CreateHER National Gathering at University of Galway on Friday, April 17.

The CreateHER initiative supports female students in developing confidence, resilience, and entrepreneurial ambition. It is delivered in partnership with ATU, South East Technological University, Munster Technological University, University of Limerick, and Technological University Dublin, and funded by the Higher Education Authority.

One of the highlights of the event was a student panel discussion, which featured representatives from each partner institution. ATU was represented by Civil Engineering student Malaika Arfan. She encouraged students to “have audacity” by putting themselves forward for opportunities and embracing new challenges.

Speaking after the event, Grace Latham, Student Entrepreneurship Officer at ATU, said CreateHER is vital in “providing supportive environments” for aspiring female students.

“Events like CreateHER are important in providing supportive environments where female students can build confidence and explore their potential,” she stated.

“The opportunity to connect, share experiences and develop new skills has a lasting impact, both personally and professionally.”

The programme also included a keynote and interactive session delivered by Norah Casey, who shared insights from her career and highlighted the importance of resilience, adaptability and self-belief. The session encouraged students to reflect on their own ambitions and approach to risk-taking.

Interactive workshops and networking sessions gave students the opportunity to exchange ideas, reflect on personal goals and build connections with peers from across the country.
