People want practical delivery, says Keane

Fianna Fail candidate Cillian Keane has said that after weeks of campaigning, he knows that people do not want performative politics or empty slogans.

“Over the past number of weeks and months, my team and I have knocked on thousands of doors across Galway-West. I have listened to families worried about the cost of living, young people who feel home ownership is slipping further away, commuters spending hours stuck in traffic and rural communities fearful about their future.

“What people want is not performative politics or empty slogans. They want practical delivery. That is the type of politics I believe in: principled, progressive and pragmatic,” he said, adding that as a young person , he kows the pressures they are facing.

“I am 25 years old. I know first-hand the pressures facing young people because I am living them too. Housing is the defining issue of our generation. Progress is being made, but there is much more to do. We need to accelerate infrastructure delivery, unlock water and wastewater capacity and reform planning so that homes can actually be built.

“That is why I support the Critical Infrastructure Bill, which will fast-track major strategic projects like the UHG Masterplan - which must include a PET scanner and Suicide Crisis Assessment Nurses (SCAN ) - as well as housing-enabling infrastructure and transport investment. It is also why I have called for the immediate publication of the Gaeltacht Planning Guidelines to allow greater flexibility for Irish speakers and local families trying to remain in their communities.

“On the cost of living, I know many working families, working people and vulnerable households remain under huge pressure, particularly in rural Ireland. That is why I have proposed a targeted €150 home heating credit to specifically target the 700,000 households reliant on home heating oil.

“This election is about a choice. I know the issues facing Galway-West, and I have practical policies to address them. I want the opportunity to work tooth and nail for Galway from the heart of Government as part of a strong Fianna Fáil team in Dáil Éireann with real leverage to deliver for our constituency.

“When you go into that voting booth tomorrow, all I am asking for is the chance to deliver for you,” he concluded.
