Galway City Harriers star at national 5k championships

The Galway City Harriers Ladies team excelled at last weekend’s National 5km Road Championships in Phoenix Park, winning silver team medals and an individual bronze.

Maebh Brannigan stormed home to third place and individual bronze in 16.34. She finished behind winner Ella Fennelly.

GCH Ladies squad of Brannigan, Amey Bermingham (17.45 ) and Nora Tierney (17.50 ) combined superbly to claim a team silver behind the Clonliffe Harriers.

Also in the medals was Ger Hartnett of Tuam, who won M50 bronze, while the GCH Men over 35s team placed fourth.

Galway 5km Series

The fifth leg of the EY sponsored Galway 5km Series was held in Tuam on Tuesday, May 19.

First home on the night was Evan O Rourke of Maree with a time of 15.58. It was his fourth win of the series. GCH duo of Aaron Brennan came second in 16.07, and John Hayes placed third in 16.13.

The First lady home in a fast race was Phoebe Whiteside with her third win of the series in 18.02. Coming home second place was Ellen Bermingham of South Galway in 18.07. She was followed by Anna McGinley of GCH in third in 18.12.

Next week sees the final event of the series for this season in Craughwell.
