Galway City Council launches open call for Culture Night 2026

Galway City Council, in partnership with The Arts Council, is delighted to announce the launch of the open call for this year’s Culture Night, which will take place on Friday, September 18.

Now in its twenty-first year, Culture Night / Oíche Chultúir is a nationwide celebration of culture, creativity and the arts, inviting audiences of all ages to experience the richness and diversity of Ireland’s cultural life through free events across the country.

The Arts Office in Galway City Council is inviting submissions from cultural organisations, community groups and creative producers to deliver engaging and innovative events all across Galway City, with the aim to see events in the east, west and central neighbourhoods.

This year’s programme will celebrate Galway’s unique cultural identity while also reflecting broader national and European connections. From July 2026, Ireland will hold the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, and proposals that highlight Ireland’s role within the EU are particularly encouraged.

The open call welcomes proposals that:

Celebrate Galway’s rich cultural heritage and contemporary creative practice

Promote inclusion, participation and cultural diversity

Animate public spaces and cultural venues across the city

Contribute to a vibrant evening and late-night cultural offering

Ruth Mulhern, Arts Officer said Culture Night is a highlight of Galway’s cultural calendar, offering a unique opportunity for audiences to engage with creativity in all its forms.

“We look forward to receiving proposals that reflect the energy, diversity and talent of Galway’s communities and look forward to considering how we can programme these events to create a magical atmosphere in September,” she said.

Culture Night continues to play a key role in enhancing access to the arts for all in Galway City. Further details on how to apply, including guidelines and deadlines, are available at: www.galwaycity.ie
