University of Galway students undertake 300km cycle to raise funds for Palestinian children's charity

A group of students from University of Galway will embark on a cycle from Galway to Cork tomorrow (Wednesday ) to raise funds for the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund.

The students will leave the University of Galway at 9am tomorrow morning to cycle more than 300km through four counties over the next three days, to spread awareness and show solidarity with children in the West Bank and Gaza, who are among the most vulnerable populations of children on the planet.

The group is working in affiliation with the Lapwing and Sunbird Cycling Club, who have done significant work with the Gaza Sunbirds, a cycling and paracycling club based in Palestine.

The cycle aims to help bolster the deep-rooted solidarity between the Irish and Palestinian people, to support the right to self-determination of the people of Palestine and hope to bolster the communities in the West Bank and Gaza.

The PCRF has been as essential fund for assisting Palestinian children who are unable to receive surgery at home and has become increasingly important due to attacks on hospitals and medical workers.

The students aim to raise €15,000 for the fund and are calling on people throughout Ireland to support the fundraiser.

"We would love to see a show of support as we travel through Galway, Clare, Kerry and Cork," a spokesperson for the group said.

People can donate to the Cycle for Palestine fundraiser via the PCRF website.
