A PROMISING young entrepreneur fled from arresting Gardaí because he though they were bouncers interfering with him.
This was the scenario outlined to Judge Liz Healy at Galway District Court.
Declan Jordan, Aughaboy, Ferbane, Co Offaly pleaded guilty to two public order charges and a further charge was withdrawn by the State.
Judge Liz Healy was told that the defendant was found by Gardaí on October 8 last at Bridge Street in an intoxicated conidiation. He refused to give his name and attempted to flee the scene on foot. He was caught and became very abusive towards Gardaí.
John Martin solr (defending ) pleaded that his client was 26 and a carpenter who had gone back to college and was studying business. He was going very well and had been nominated for several entrepreneurial awards.
Mr Martin explained that his client was so drunk that he thought the Gardaí were bouncers and he was fleeing from from them. His client had no previous convictions and a very bright future and asked the Judge to leave him without a conviction on his record.
Judge Healy said she noted Jordan was remorseful and apologetic and he had not come to the attention of the Gardaí since this event.
As he was taking responsibility for his behaviour and trying to move on with his life so she would apply the Probation Act on condition he make a €500 donation to the Little Blue Heroes charity. Warning him if he did not comply, she would impose a conviction and a fine of €750 and wished him all the best.
