Mark Lohan, Sinn Fein candidate in the forthcoming by-election has said that a win for his party can force Government to make life affordable.

He said that the Galway West by-election is a chance to send a message to Government that people have had enough.

“Electing me as a Sinn Féin TD will put maximum pressure on Fianna Fáil & Fine Gael to cut the cost of living for you,@ he said. “Across Galway, families are being squeezed from every direction – from soaring home heating oil and fuel costs, to rising rents and mortgages, to electricity bills and grocery prices that keep climbing week after week.

“For workers, carers, young families and older people alike, the pressure is relentless. Yet the Government is out of touch. Their response has been too little, too late,” he added.

He said that recent weeks have shown that when ordinary people push back, they can be forced to move. But it is also clear that they only act when the pressure is sustained – and intensified.

“That is what this by-election is about. I am not a career politician. I am a worker, a campaigner, and a fighter for ordinary people. During my time working in Boston as a painter and decorator, I stood shoulder-to-shoulder with workers demanding fair pay and decent conditions. Those values didn’t change when I came home to Galway with my wife Mary to raise our family.

“As a former City Councillor, I have consistently taken the side of those who are working hard but being left behind. If I am elected in this by-election it will send a clear signal to this government – that half measures and excuses won’t cut it and that action on the cost of living is urgently needed. I am asking you to help me make life affordable by giving me your number 1 vote,” he said.
