Galway & Mayo teens sought for new TG4 youth drama series Ar Ais Arís

TG4, alongside production companies Tailored Films, Beactive and Galway-based Éiru Films, have announced a major casting call for teenagers across Galway and Mayo for a new Irish language young person’s television series, Ar Ais Arís.

The production is actively seeking native Irish-speaking teens from Gaeltacht areas in Galway and Mayo, as well as the wider Connacht region. One female role requires Portuguese language ability plus Irish. This is a unique opportunity for local talent to take part in an ambitious, high-profile television drama.

Ar Ais Arís is a new series blending adventure, time travel and contemporary storytelling. The story follows a group of teenagers whose lives are transformed when a mysterious girl from 17th century Portugal emerges into present-day Ireland through an ancient portal, sparking a fast-paced and emotional journey.

The series places Galway and the West at its heart — both in terms of location and talent — and aims to spotlight the richness of Irish language and culture on screen, while also embracing an international dimension through its bilingual Irish and Portuguese storytelling.

Casting Director Maureen Hughes said they are excited to open this casting call and discover new young talent.

“We are particularly looking for native Irish speakers from Gaeltacht communities in Galway and Mayo, along with one young actress with Portuguese and Irish. This is a rare opportunity for teenagers to be part of a major television series that is rooted in Irish language and reaching out to an international audience.”

Director Eamonn Norris added that Ar Ais Arís is a truly ambitious project — in scale, in storytelling and in the talent we are looking to find. We are searching for young people with real presence and authenticity who are ready to step into something bold and exciting.”

Auditions will take place via self-tape submissions. Applicants are asked to submit a short video introduction as Gaeilge, including their name, age, location and any relevant experience. Submissions must be made by a parent or guardian.

Submissions can be emailed directly to: [email protected]

Filming is expected to take place in Galway from late June through early August 2026.
