A trip to the cinema cost a mother of two an additional €300 when she was convicted on a charge of failing to remain at the scene of an accident at Galway District Court. She paid €200 compensation to the owner of the car she tipped and was fined €300 for the offence.
The woman, who is currently on maternity leave, damaged another vehicle as she tried to park at Wellpark car park on a trip to the cinema.
She caused €200 worth of damage to the car she hit and was charged with failing to remain at the scene of an accident and failing to report the matter to the Gardaí.
The damage to the car was to the left passenger side, the Judge was told.
A witness to the accident took the defendant’s details and left an note on the injured party’s car. This is how she was detected.
The defendant said she didn’t realise she had hit the other car. Parking space was tight, her solicitor pleaded, adding that she was not aware of causing the damage until contacted by the Gardaí.
She was a mother of two and was currently on maternity leave, the defence said.
Judge Corcoran noted that the defendant had no precious conviction and had paid compensation to the victim.
She imposed a fine of €300 on the failing to remain charge and struck out the failing to report.
