Kate Dillon has continued to shine on the international stage.

Oughterard Golf Club’s Kate Dillon continues to fly the flag for club and province at Arizona State University.

Dillon, who signed with the university on a golf scholarship, recently finished runner-up at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic in Arizona, shooting 68, 67 and 67 for -14. Lady Captain Naoimh O’Dwyer, who is focused on growing women’s golf at Oughterard, says everyone at Oughterard Golf Club is proud of her achievements.

This year, 47 women have joined the club’s 'Get Into Golf' programme, with coaching from PGA Professional Derek McNamara and on-course mentoring from members. The club has also received increased applications from new women members and is participating in Golf Ireland’s three-year 'New to Golf' programme.

Dillon is not the only one impressing in competitions. Riona Murphy, with a handicap index 4.5, continues to compete nationwide, while youngsters Holly Donohue and Emily Blehein are names to watch, she says.

With support from vice captain Deirdre Forde, Lady Captain Naoimh ran a Winter League and 13-hole competitions to keep members playing through the winter as they now prepare for the interclub competitions.
