Galway City Rapparees prepare for their first Senior championship campaign.

Galway City Rapparees' first senior campaign gets underway this weekend at home against Dublin giants Limekiln.

The Galway-based rounders club secured senior status last September when they were crowned All-Ireland Intermediate Men's champions. It was a breakthrough moment for the club as they prepare to take their place among the elite of GAA Rounders.

Sunday's fixture will be a baptism of fire. Facing Dublin giants Limekiln at home on the opening weekend will be a big test of Rapparees' credentials. Limekiln are one of the most established and successful clubs in Irish rounders.

"GAA Rounders has seen phenomenal growth in recent years, both in Galway and nationally," said club secretary Joe Naughton.

"We’re really looking forward to our senior opener against Limekiln on April 19, but there’s just as much excitement around local fixtures like Clontuskert on May 10," he added.

The coming season promises to be the busiest in the club’s history. Galway Rapparees will field five teams across multiple grades, with Senior Men, Intermediate Women, Intermediate Mixed, Junior Men, and Junior Mixed sides all competing. In total, the club is set for up to 40 fixtures across the championship calendar.

Off the field, the club continues to grow its playing base and community with over 70 members and teams catering for men, women, and mixed formats. The club will also be delivering Go Games sessions across Galway to introduce GAA Rounders to children from clubs throughout the county.

A home fixture is the perfect season opener for Rapparees as they brace for a historic occasion to raise the curtain on a historic season.
