Ford has revealed its new electric van, the Transit City.
The brand's newest electric van is designed to offer a cheaper entry-point to its existing line-up. Built under a joint partnership with China's Jiangling Motors Corporation (JMC ), the Transit City sits on a 56kWh battery with a claimed range of up to 254km.
Ford's new Transit City supports DC fast charging up to 87kW and has 11kW of AC charging. Power to the front wheels comes from a 148hp motor.
Similar in size to the existing Transit Custom, the new Transit City will be available in three body styles: L1H1, L2H2 and chassis cab. Ford says the L1H1 variant is capable of carrying three Euro pallets and payloads up to 1,085kg, while the larger L2H2 van has 8.5 cubic metres of load volume, a payload up to 1,275kg and more than three metres of load length.
Standard features include a heated driver’s seat, keyless start and a 12-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. There is also adaptive cruise control, front and rear parking sensors, a reversing camera and a digital instrument cluster.
The introduction of the Transit City means Ford will soon offer five different versions of its Transit, including the large Transit, Transit Custom, Transit Connect and Transit Courier. All Transits are also sold as fully-electric versions, with the exception of the Transit Connect which is sold as a petrol plug-in hybrid alongside diesel.
The new Ford Transit City is expected to go on sale in Ireland by the end of 2026.
