A Leitir Mór man who allegedly placed a pub security staff member in a chokehold for ten to 15 seconds is to go on trial on this and other charges in early June.
It will be alleged that he also caused injuries to two members of staff when they tried to eject him from the premises.
Dara Bailey, Derryengloss, Leitir Mór is charged with causing a disturbance in a city pub and when security staff tried to deal with him he placed one of them in the chokehold.
The case came before Judge King at Galway District Court for him to decide whether to accept jurisdiction or send it forward to the higher Central Criminal Court for hearing.
The Court was told the injured party attended his GP following the incident. He suffered scratches and tenderness. A colleague received two small lacerations to the back of the head.
The incident happened inside the pub. When the defendant was asked to leave he became aggressive and assaulted the staff, it is alleged.
Judge King said he would “just about” accept jurisdiction, based on the medical reports presented.
He was told Bailey worked part-time and earned €300 per week and he was granted free legal aid. The matter was adjourned until the June 6 sitting.
