A young man who allegedly allowed his bank account be used in a phishing fraud has until June to decide whether he is going to plead guilty to the charge or have a date set for the hearing of the case.
This was decided at Galway District Court by Judge Valarie Corcoran when the basis case the Gardaí are bringing against him was outlined on Monday.
Adam Ruboneka, 11 Radharc na Greine, Monivea Road, Galway is represented by Cathy McDarby solicitor and received free legal aid when he told the judge that he earned €700 per fortnight.
The court was told the defendant met an old friend while socialising, and he agreed to allow this friend to use his PTSB account in the scam, it is alleged.
On June 26, 2024 the sum of €3,966 was transferred into his account and the following day €2,866 was transferred bringing the total to €6,832.
It is alleged Runoneka withdrew the money and handed it over to his friend.
Judge Corcoran ordered the prosecuting Gardaí to hand over all evidence they will be presenting to the defence, known as a disclosure order.
The case was adjourned until June.
