Tribeswomen back to winning ways ahead of Antrim trip

Galway travel to Antrim this Saturday looking to build on their first league victory of the campaign over Tipperary last weekend.

Cathal Murray's charges got up and running away to Tipperary last Saturday at a venue they had not won at since 2019. Victory was crucial for the Tribeswomen to brush away relegation fears and look to create momentum.

Antrim sit bottom of the standings after Round 3 but cannot be taken lightly. The Ulster side's only victory this campaign came against Cork in Round 2, and they produced a fighting performance in their defeat to league leaders Waterford last weekend.

Still, the Tribeswomen will back themselves to put their disappointing start behind them after last Saturday's victory. The second half performance in particular gave cause for encouragement. Carrie Dolan was reliable as ever from the dead ball, while Aoife Donohue and Niamh Mallon's attacking prowess came to the fore.

It was Tipp who started the contest the brighter, with a five-point unanswered spell going a long way to cementing their one-point lead going into the interval.

But Galway came out for the second with a renewed energy, setting the tone with five unanswered points of their own. Shannon Corcoran pointed twice, Niamh Niland, Carrie Dolan from a placed ball, and Niamh Mallon all raised white flags to give Galway the lead for the first time in the game.

Galway had firmly established their authority and kept Tipperary within arm's reach to the end. There was still time for Dolan to show her class as she struck two points either side of a Caoimhe Stakelum score to ensure a four-point victory for her side.

Although their hopes of a league final seem difficult, it is a challenge Murray's side will surely relish.

Throw-in at Robert Emmet GAC in Cushendun is 2pm.
