You can lie but you can’t hide, court told

A YOUNG man who gave a false name and address to a Garda who found him drunk on Shop Street was told by Judge Valerie Corcoran at Galway District Court that he needed to be more careful, as Gardaí will always check out such details and they’ll find out any lies.

Evan McMorrow, Cloonfad Oldtown, was found by Garda Mick Hehir on Shop Street on May 17 last. He was in an intoxicated state and gave false details to the Garda.

His defence pleaded that his client was 20 and didn’t remember the incident. “Drink does not agree with him,” his solicitor added.

Judge Corcoran imposed a fine of €100 for public drunkenness and a further fine of €150 for not providing Garda Hehir with correct details when he demanded them.

“You need to be more careful. The Gardaí will always check you out and find you out,” she warned McMorrow.
