Uisce Éireann is preparing for the next phase of mains replacement on St Mary’s Avenue, as the upgrade to water infrastructure in the west of the city continues apace.
Crews working under Uisce Éireann’s National Leakage Reduction Programme hit the ground running in 2026, having already successfully replaced ageing mains with new, modern pipes in William Street West and Dominick Street Upper.
Works on Dominick Street are due to be completed by the end of this week.
Works will then commence from next Monday, March 9 to replace nearly 300 metres of ageing cast iron mains along St Mary’s Avenue (L-5013-0 ) with new, modern pipes.
“This mains upgrade will improve water quality and provide a more reliable supply for residents of St Mary’s Avenue and surrounding areas,” said Enda Mac Namara, Uisce Éireann programme manager. “The project will also help us work toward our aim of driving down leakage on the network and protecting our water supplies.
“With works on Dominick Street Upper now drawing to a close, we wish to thank residents and businesses in the area for their cooperation and understanding,” he added. “We acknowledge that road closures can be disruptive, and we thank impacted road users for their support while these essential infrastructure upgrades were safely delivered.”
St Mary’s Avenue will be closed to traffic from Monday, March 9 to Friday, April 17 in order to ensure the safety of crews, road users and the general public.
Diversions will be in place during this period. Local and emergency services access will be accommodated throughout the project and?the road will?reopen for the Easter weekend.
Uisce Éireann regrets any inconvenience that the delivery of these essential water network improvement works may cause. We would like to thank the local community and road users for their continued cooperation and patience.
All?works are being carried out by Farrans Construction on behalf of Uisce Éireann. Works will begin next week and are expected to be completed by late April.??????
