Sinn Féin TD for Galway West Mairéad Farrell has welcomed the progress that has been made on the houses owned by the Tearmann Éanna in Ros a Mhíl and Eanach Mheáin.

She now calls on the County Council and the Department of Housing to focus on this project in upcoming weeks so that these houses can be made available to people in need of housing in Connemara as soon as possible. This comes following a response to a PQ response made by Deputy Farrell from the Minister for Housing.

Deputy Farrell said that the Department of Housing received feasibility studies and cost reports which were carried out by Galway County Council on the houses in Eanach Mheáin and Ros a Mhíl and they have accepted the recommendations made by the County Council. This means the projects can progress to the next step of development to make these houses available as social housing for people in Connemara.

“This is good news as it means that finally some kind of social housing will be made available to people in Ros a Mhíl and Eanach Mheáin.

“This region desperately needs investment in housing and I welcome that the Department of Education has accepted the studies and recommendations made by the Galway County Council in this case.

“I would ask that the County Council and the Department of Housing focus on this project in upcoming weeks so that these houses can be made available to people in need of housing in Connemara as soon as possible,” she concluded.
