Sipping wine while cooking results in lengthy driving ban

A WOMAN who was sipping wine while cooking transpired to be almost four times over the legal limit when she was caught driving to the shops to pick up some missing meal ingredients.

This was the scenario outlined to Judge James Faughnan at Tuam District Court when Anna Przepiora, 151, Clochran, Tuam appeared before him on a drunk driving charge. “What was she cooking?” asked the Judge.

The defendant was observed driving at Foster Place, Tuam, on December 8 last by Garda Darren Egan. He told Judge James Faughnan that she went through a red light “very late” and when he stopped her,he formed the opinion that she had drink taken.

He arrested her and brought her to Tuam Garda Station where a sample of her breath showed a reading of 80 micrograms of alcohol per 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 22mg/100ml.

Danny McGrath solr (defending ) pleaded that his client was at home with her husband on the date. She was cooking and sipping wine while doing so, when she realised she was short some ingredients for the meal and decided to take the car and go shopping for them. She was 40 and living in Ireland for 20 years.

Judge Faughnan imposed fines and a three-year driving disqualification
