“Some people think all their geese are swans,” a Judge quipped when he was told that the owner of a seriously defective car thought it was just fine.
Judge James Faughnan made his comment at Tuam District Court when dealing with the case against Gerry Donoghue, 5 Cluin Ortha, Craughwell.
The court heard Gardaí received a report of a car being driven dangerously at The Glebe, Tuam, on February 12 last.
When the Gardaí arrived they saw a car approaching with only one headlight working. They activated their lights and the driver drove off, but was stopped soon after.
On examining the vehicle they found it had defective tyres, lights and other problems. The Gardaí were so concerned about the car being on the road in such a dangerous state that they seized it and had it examined, which confirmed their concerns.
Judge Faughnan was told that Donoghue thought his car was just fine. “Some people think all their geese are swans,” the Judge quipped and imposed a fine of €400 for having a defective vehicle on the road.
