Residents of Ballybane are being invited to welcome the season with a celebration of fresh, foraged flavours later this week in the Community Hub
A spring-themed cookery demonstration will take place tonight Thursday, February 26, at 7pm, showcasing the culinary potential of wild garlic, which is currently growing in abundance in Merlin Woods. Hosted by chef Maria McNeela, the evening promises an exploration of simple, seasonal cooking techniques designed to make the most of this versatile ingredient.
Wild garlic, known for its distinctive aroma and vibrant taste, will take centre stage as attendees are shown how to prepare fragrant wild garlic pesto and savoury wild garlic scones. The demonstration will focus on accessible methods and practical tips, highlighting how locally foraged produce can be transformed into fresh, flavour-packed dishes.
Organisers say the event is open to everyone, from experienced home cooks to those simply curious about experimenting with seasonal ingredients. The hub is located at 30 Béal Srutha, H91 TW27, with parking available adjacent to Ballybane Library.
Meanwhile, the hub will also host its monthly Garda clinic tomorrow Friday, February 27, from 2pm to 3pm. Garda Kenneth Boyle will be in attendance to meet members of the public.
The clinic offers residents an opportunity to seek crime prevention advice, have forms signed, or report concerns directly in an informal setting. Community members are encouraged to call in and speak with Garda Boyle during the scheduled hour.
Both events form part of the hub’s ongoing efforts to provide practical supports and social opportunities for the local community.
